I have been a faithful fan of Scotland Yard's most famous sleuth, Sherlock Holmes for as long as I can remember. I have read the literary works of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, and watched many documentaries and numerous iterations of the famous violin playing (and I use the term "playing" loosely ;-) detective, Dr Watson and his interactions with Inspector Lestrade and Sherlock's arch nemisis Dr. Moriarty.

I will watch Basil Rathbone and Nigel Bruce in the black and white "Hounds of the Baskervilles" whenever it is on television.

This said, I was absolutely taken with a little heralded updated 21st century version of this classic tale produced by BBC and starring Benedict Cumberpatch and Martin Freeman... Benedict plays an edgy, conflicted and sociopathic version of the character Sir Arthur Conan Doyle created in this stylized 21st century remake of the classic and Martin Freeman plays a much more captivating Dr. Watson, though not on par with the brilliant Sherlock, is much more complex and involved rather than just the passive sidekick the character is portrayed as in most versions of this tale.

imho, this brilliant British modern remake of a classic has become my favorite version of the classic tale and is television worth watching and will air on PBS periodically. I urge any Sherlock fans to watch this series, if you cannot wait, you can find the three episodes on DVD.
